4 September 2006 My Dear Friends, My year as National Vice-Commander of The American Legion has come to an end. This is a year that I will never forget. It has been an exciting year full of adventures. A year that has allowed me to meet many more of the finest people in the world, the members of The American Legion Family. My wife Norita and I will treasure forever the memories of the hospitality you provided and the friendships we made during this year. With your help, we continued the work of The American Legion serving Veterans, Active Duty Military and their Families. We must be ever mindful that there will always be someone, somewhere that want's to take away that which we have fought to obtain. Whether it be tyrants trying to take our freedom and liberty or whether it is Congress trying to take away our benefits, we must never let our defenses down. We must be ever vigilant! I want to extend my thank you to the Legion Family of North Dakota that gave me this great opportunity to serve. Thank you to the many people for their thoughts, prayers and support while I battled my health issues this past year and suffered the loss of two brothers. Without the support of you and my family I would have not been able to complete this year as National Vice-Commander. I want to thank my family for their support and understanding for all the family events that I have had to miss as I climbed the ladder of American Legion leadership. A special thank you to my business partner and son Brent whom I farm with for all the extra work that you have had to shoulder to allow me the freedom to serve. I would be negligent if I did not give special recognition to wife Norita, with whom I will celebrate 50 years of marriage with this November. Thank you for being by my side during this year and for the past 50 years. I could not have accomplished what I have without the support that you have provided. With the exception of my wife Norita and my Son Brent, I have deliberately avoided thanking anyone by name, because there are so many people that are deserving of recognition and thanks that this letter would never come to an end, but know each time I see you, or think of you, I will smile and remember all that you and everyone has done for me. May God Bless a strong and free America and remember tomorrow when we get up to Fly the flag and pray that God Bless's America Again!
